Our Guest Houses

Our accommodations bring together the authenticity of the Alto Alentejo with the comfort of a stay designed with care. We are not a hotel — we are a collection of distinct guest houses, each with its own atmosphere, between nature, village life and the historic centre. Here, you will find harmony between traditional architecture, contemporary comfort and a serene environment. All of this in Castelo de Vide, where landscape, history, gastronomy and the art of hospitality are truly celebrated.

About the Region

Castelo de Vide is composed of four parishes. Among them, only the village of Póvoa e Meadas lies outside the town’s center, at 12 km. Visiting this village offers direct contact with the everyday life of the people of Northern Alentejo — naturally welcoming, open to conversation, and eager to share traditional knowledge.

The town of Castelo de Vide (often called the “Sintra of Alentejo”) has a historically documented foundation in the 13th century, linked to the early Portuguese monarchy. However, it is very likely that the Templars played a role in its origin, as this order was deeply involved in the repopulation of Northern Alentejo.

Serra de são mamede natural park

The architectural heritage of this municipality is remarkably rich, with special emphasis on its medieval borough, the castle, the walls surrounding the town, the Jewish quarter, the medieval synagogue, and the early‑20th‑century main church.

The Serra de São Mamede Natural Park — which includes Castelo de Vide, Marvão, and Portalegre — was once home to Paleolithic, Arab, Roman, and medieval populations, all of whom left visible traces of their presence. Its diverse vegetation is complemented by a wide variety of wildlife, particularly birds of prey. This is an ideal area for hiking and mountain biking, with well‑marked and mapped trails throughout the region.

Local gastronomy reflects the essential characteristics of Northern Alentejo cuisine and stands as a symbol of identity, tradition, and diversity. Jewish roots are also present — not in Kosher form, but in recipes that emerged from the adaptation of New Christian families seeking to preserve their culinary habits while escaping the Inquisition.
